A text – Psalm 67
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, Selah
2 that your way may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations.
3 Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.
4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah
5 Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.
6 The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us.
7 May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him.
A reflection:
The blessings of the Lord extend to every land. God blesses the whole earth. Let ALL the peoples praise you, the psalmist says.
All blessings originate from God. And God blesses us, daily. We are grateful, daily. And in verse 2, we have our reason: “that your (God’s) way may be known upon the earth.” We all are blessed to be blessings to one another and to people we don’t even know.
Our lives have ripple effects across the whole world. As God blesses us and we share anything from gratitude to good will to actual goods with others, those same gifts get shared by them to still others. Never underestimate what even 5 minutes of your gratitude today will produce in someone who sees it or feels it and then shares it because you shared it.
Let verse 7 ring: May God continue to bless us (and we share that blessing); let all the ends of the earth revere him. Amen.
A prayer:
Lord God, Thank you for loving us. Thank you for your blessings. Help us to remember that when we share those blessings in our circles of friends and family and strangers, the whole earth gets blessed and begins to know your goodness. Amen.
