A text – Psalm 145:8-14
145:8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
145:9 The LORD is good to all, and his compassion is over all that he has made.
145:10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your faithful shall bless you.
145:11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom, and tell of your power,
145:12 to make known to all people your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
145:13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. The LORD is faithful in all his words, and gracious in all his deeds.
145:14 The LORD upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down.
A reflection:
This week the theme is “The Lord helps the weak, the meek, the lowly, and the burdened.”
Here it is again, in the Psalm. All the works of the Lord give thanks to God, praise God’s name, and speak aloud to proclaim the glory of God.
WE are God’s works, you know. We are some of the things God has made. Besides the mountains and the oceans. We give thanks to God and proclaim the glory of God.
When has the Lord lifted you, upheld you when you were falling, raised you when you were bowed down? Can you think of a time? If so, tell someone about that – you will be proclaiming the glory of God.
If not – if you yourself are bowed down right now, let God uphold you. Ask to be upheld and raised. See how that feels. Experience the joy. And then tell someone about it – proclaim the glory of God.
Whatever gives you joy, share it with another. Do it once a day. And before long you will be praising God without ceasing, because you will have reminded yourself of how good God is and what mighty works God can do.
A prayer:
Lord God, Thank you for loving us. Thank you for lifting us up when we are bowed down. Help us to share that lifting we have felt. Help us to tell someone and thus proclaim the glory of God. Amen.
